On the second floor of the Italian American Museum and Library is the Louisiana American Italian Sports Hall of Fame, formed to recognize the Italian Americans of Louisiana who, for generations, have participated and excelled in the sports arena. Through the efforts of the LAISHF, the contributions of Italian American sports became a means to escape the ghettos by using their God-given talents. Athletics, sportsmanship, and exemplary moral character were for years synonymous.
In the belief that "a good athlete today make a great leader of tomorrow," the LAISHF has developed a scholarship program to assist youths presently excelling in local sports. Each year an annual induction banquet honors one national sports figure and inducts outstanding Louisiana athletes, both past and present, into the Hall of Fame, such as Zeke Bonura, Jimmy Perrin, Hank Lauricella, Willie Pastrano, and Tony Sardisco.
